Salaam dear parents and students:
Salaam dear parents and students:
- today was a very busy day.......students were so excited! During our literacy block we had Ms. Bair (our Literacy leader) come into our class. We team taught the "at" word family using our feet!! In our centers we are working on spelling and using our letter sounds to spell words. Therefore, I thought that it would be an excellent idea to start introducing family words.
- the introduction activity was excellent, Ms. Bair and I modeled and demonstrated the activity to the students, and we had few student-volunteers come up and help with the activity -then students were partnered with our students, and had the opportunity to practice the "at" words family: P.....at, F....at, m...at, s....at, b....at, h....at, r.....at ...... they traced and cut out their feet, and one partner put a letter on the foot and the other partner put "at" and then they taped it on their foot. Students then walked around the room and found other partners and formed words. Then we took about 5-10 minutes at the end of the class to discuss our findings. Everyone had so much fun, including myself! Practice these words with your child at home!
- A BIG THANK YOU to Latif's mother for volunteering in our KG class
- In Math we continued we our lesson 2- 2D and 3D shapes
- check out the picture under smiling tap!!
- Arabic tap has been updated!
- We will begin a new Science Unit -next week- (Seasonal Changes and Changes in the environment)
- regarding students reading levels, I have tested the students in November, and the 2nd term testing will begin beginning of March, inshallah! Keep on working on the tricky words and sounding and read on the RAZ-KIDS!
- As, I mentioned yesterday on my blog that students have made a dramatic change since the beginning of the year. Mashallah! Keep up the great work!
Thank you to Nuha's mother for asking an important question about our new Math unit, I thought to share this great question with everyone!
"Regarding the new math unit, is it okay to use the names of three dimensional shapes such as cube, cuboid, pyramid, sphere, cylinder etc. or just we have to revise as 2D names like square, rectangle, circle etc."
Mrs. Hosaini.......,.
"Yes definitely!" "We are studying 2D and 3D objects and shapes, therefore, it is okay to expand on your child's learning." "We have discuss objects and material that are pyramid like, sphere (like a ball), cylinder (glue stick), cube (dice) etc. " Children should understand and distinguish between 2D object and 3D objects and shapes.
